Ravendale Community began in 1988 as a grassroot community organization. The service boundaries encompass to the north, Gratiot to the South, Conner to the east and Chalmers to the west. It has a population of approximately 4200 residents in a 40-block area on Detroit's east side.
Ravendale comprises a 48-block area, 38 of these blocks were organized into block clubs headed by block club captains. Ravendale’s mission is to foster spiritual, intellectual, social and economic growth for the residents while encouraging them to give their time, talents and resources to improve the community.
Many homes in Ravendale are brick bungalows and Tudor-inspired cottages with steep-pitched roofs as well as a few larger Colonial Revival homes. Most of the community has an urban feel, with homes built close together.
