Security Guards in Park - Chandler
In the 1800's, Chandler Park belonged to Grosse Pointe. It was later annexed to the city of Detroit in 1917. During World War II, portions of the park were used as housing for veterans. Chandler Park hosted bike races and parades from the early 1940's - mid 1960's.
The park was named after Zachariah Chandler, a former Detroit mayor and U.S. Senator known for his anti-slavery activism. It has undergone numerous expansions and improvements over the years, including the addition of a golf course, pool (later a water park), green spaces, and a recent marshland.
Today, Chandler Park is a large 201 acres park with a variety of recreational amenities, including sports fields, courts, a skate park, walking paths, an aquatic facility, a golf course, and a recently completed indoor fieldhouse.
Wayne County built a large and impressive Aquatic Center within the park; one that opened in 1998 and is very well maintained by the county.
